Collaborating for Koalas
In Rebecca Owttrim’s Year 2 cohort at Bellmere State School in Queensland, Australia, students focused on the UN goal of Responsible Consumption and Communities.
After partnering with local groups and realizing that koalas and their habitats were in danger, the students put their collaborative skills to work to do what they could to make a difference for the koalas in their community.

Digital Energy Textbook
In Wendy Atkinson’s fourth-grade class at Lucille Umbarger Elementary School in Washington State, a new focus on collaborative inquiry exposed an opportunity to identify or design new materials to support students to learn more deeply through the inquiry lens.
What followed was a deep learning journey sparked by the forms of energy and by students’ desire to run with a learning experience that was both highly engaging and highly sustainable.

“This unit of work aimed to develop students’ knowledge, skills and ideas about performance. The unit provided the opportunity for students to take an individual and collective action to raise an awareness of sustaining the environment for all to enjoy. Students needed to show a social awareness when interacting with others and the environment . . . and [they] created a performance to share their learning through the arts curriculum with an audience.”
