Voices from the Field – Our Shared Story
Our Shared Story is a global community project inviting young people aged 3 to 18 to share their stories of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project brings together the voices and perspectives of students from across the world and provides an authentic audience and outlet for their creativity.
Our Shared Story has been designed by teachers from the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning community and includes resources for educators to assist students in participating, as well as opportunities for educators to connect and collaborate on their own experiences of teaching and learning at this time in history.
Voices from the Field – Virtual Open House
Despite the fact that they could not come together physically, McKinley Elementary, in Santa Monica USD held a Virtual Open House that celebrated students “Global Citizenship Service Learning Projects”.
From Principal Ashley Benjamin: “Our goal at McKinley is to foster Deep Learning so that students can learn to contribute to the common good, address global challenges, and flourish in turbulent and complex times.”
Through projects that utilize different learning partnerships, pedagogical practices, learning environments, and digital technology, students develop 6 global competencies (creativity, communication, citizenship, critical thinking, character, and collaboration).
“Our Deep Learning projects offer a learning experience that helps students to be good at academics and good at life, so they can be the positive problem solvers and global citizens.”
